Upon successful completion of NCLEX-PN, the graduate will be licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse.

Program Description

This program is designed to teach entry-level skills required for practical nursing.  The Practical Nursing Program is divided into several courses of study during which students receive training in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. Courses are designed in order for the student to progress from simple to more complex areas of study. Within its curriculum, entry-level skills required for employment in certain other health care occupations may be obtained (i.e. nurse assisting). In order to more readily meet student needs, Indian Capital Technology Center offers a variety of classroom hours and instructional formats for the Practical Nursing Program.

·         Lock Step  -  Muskogee/Sallisaw
This traditional format is offered on Muskogee and Sallisaw Campuses. Classroom hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Class and clinical hours may vary and the potential exists for some limited learning opportunities that can only be offered on the evening or during the weekend. In such cases, students are given as much advanced notice as possible. The program is 11 months in length. Classes begin in the fall and complete in June of each academic year.

The instructional format of the Lock-Step program is classroom lecture with hands-on/interactive activities, laboratory and clinical activities. Clinical experiences may be offered up to three or more days per week.

·         Flexible Option  -  Tahlequah/Stilwell
The flexible option format is offered on the Tahlequah and Stilwell campuses.  The classroom is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 3:00  p.m. at the Tahlequah Campus, and 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the Stilwell campus.  The Stilwell campus students must attend clinical during both daytime and evening hours.  Tahlequah campus student must schedule clinical hours primarily during daytime hours.

The instructional format of the Flexible Option programs allows students to complete some components of the course independently, resulting in some limited flexibility in scheduling.  Students must attend school a minimum of 22 hours per week, but may attend more hours as needed.  Students are contracted for the amount of curriculum to be completed each month.

During approximately the first 6 months of enrollment, the student will be required to be on campus a minimum of each Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  During approximately the 7th month of enrollment, students will find they must be on campus at least Tuesday, as well as scheduled clinical days, which will fall on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Most students find the pace and demands of the program increase as they progress through the curriculum.  Additional course work and curriculum progression will be required on the student's own time.

*Scheduling and instructional format for each campus are subject to change without notification.

Tuition/Fees

·         $1.25/clock hour (in-district)

Plus the cost of books, equipment, uniforms, and fees (see application for estimated total cost).  A detailed listing of these items as well as an estimated expense list will be available prior to class selection.  A payment schedule may be established for students who qualify.
